GM Joël Lautier
Joël Lautier is a French Grandmaster who emerged as one of the world's top players during the 1990s and early 2000s. After winning the World U-14 Championship in 1986, he became the youngest-ever World Junior Champion at age 15 in 1988, finishing ahead of future stars like Ivanchuk and Gelfand. One of the few players with a positive lifetime record against Garry Kasparov, he also helped prepare Kramnik's famous "Berlin Wall" strategy for the 2000 World Championship match. He won two French Championship titles before leaving competitive chess in 2006 for a career in investment banking.
