GM Tigran Petrosian
Tigran Petrosian, the ninth World Chess Champion from 1963 to 1969, earned the nickname "Iron Tigran" for his seemingly impenetrable defensive mastery. A Soviet-Armenian Grandmaster who embodied prophylactic thinking and anti-tactical play, he prioritized safety and positional solidity above all else. Petrosian is widely credited with popularizing chess throughout Armenia.
