Henry Bird was a nineteenth-century English chess player, author, and accountant who gave his name to the Bird Opening (1.f4). Active in tournament chess for decades, he also penned Chess History and Reminiscences alongside a work on British railway analysis. His dual interests in chess and finance made him a colorful figure of the Victorian chess scene.
