GM Salo Flohr
Salo Flohr was among the elite chess players of the 1930s and a serious contender for the World Championship before the Second World War disrupted competitive play. Born in Czechoslovakia, he received the Grandmaster title in FIDE's inaugural 1950 class. His patient, positional style defined an era, though the rise of sharper Soviet-school tacticians after the war gradually eclipsed his dominance.
