Samuel Reshevsky was a Polish-born chess prodigy who became one of America's most formidable Grandmasters across four decades of top-level competition. A positional rock known for clean, fundamentally sound play, he contended for the World Championship from the mid-1930s through the late 1960s. His eight US Championship titles remain tied with Bobby Fischer for the all-time record.
