József Pintér is a Hungarian Grandmaster and chess writer who won the Hungarian Championship in 1978 and 1979 before earning his GM title in 1982. With a peak Elo of 2595, he reached the upper echelons of Hungarian chess. He is particularly remembered for a brilliant game against Lajos Portisch at the 1984 Hungarian Championship.
