IndiaHailing from Kolkata, grandmaster Sandipan Chanda took up chess at age nine and earned his GM title in 2003. His breakthrough international result came at the 2004 Curacao Chess Festival, where he finished first with 7.5/9, a half point clear of Alexander Shabalov.
