GM Eugenio Torre
Eugenio Torre made history in 1974 as the first Filipino and first non-Soviet Asian to earn the Grandmaster title, achieving this through a silver medal performance at the Chess Olympiad in Nice. Widely regarded as the strongest Philippine chess player of the 1980s and 1990s, he represented his country on board one across seventeen Olympiads. Torre was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame in 2021.
