GM Jan Timman
Jan Timman was a Dutch Grandmaster and one of the strongest non-Soviet players from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, earning the moniker "The Best of the West." A deep strategic player who accumulated advantages methodically, he won the Dutch Championship nine times and reached multiple World Championship Candidates cycles. His 1993 FIDE World Championship title match against Anatoly Karpov marked the pinnacle of his candidacy.
