Sir George Alan Thomas was a remarkably versatile British sportsman who excelled at chess, badminton, and tennis. A two-time British chess champion and International Master, he was also a 21-time All-England badminton champion and Wimbledon semifinalist. The Thomas Cup, badminton's premier men's team event, is named in his honor.
