GM Savielly Tartakower
Savielly Tartakower held Austrian-Hungarian, Polish, and later French citizenship over the course of a distinguished career spanning the first half of the twentieth century. Awarded the Grandmaster title in FIDE's inaugural class of 1950, he was equally renowned as a journalist, author, and wit whose aphorisms are still quoted by chess enthusiasts today.
