Arturo Pomar was the first Spanish player ever awarded the Grandmaster title and a seven-time national champion. A child prodigy who made headlines at a young age, he remained a force in Spanish chess for decades. His wide opening repertoire included the English, Caro-Kann, and Queen's Gambit Declined.
