GM Jan Smejkal
CzechoslovakiaJan Smejkal is a Czech Grandmaster who stood among the world chess elite during the 1970s. He won the Czechoslovak Championship in 1973, 1979, and 1986, and collected victories at numerous international tournaments across Europe. At the 1973 Leningrad Interzonal, he finished fourth, narrowly missing qualification for the Candidates Tournament.
