Vladimir Bagirov was a Soviet-Latvian Grandmaster, author, and trainer who competed in ten USSR Championships, finishing fourth on his debut in 1960. Later in his career, he captured the World Senior Championship in 1998, and he was known for his deep expertise in the Alekhine Defence and the Nimzowitsch-Larsen Attack.
