GM Ilya Smirin
Born in Belarus, Ilya Smirin earned his Grandmaster title from FIDE in 1990 and later became one of Israel's top chess players. He captured the Israeli Championship three times, in 1992, 2002, and 2023. A devoted King's Indian Defence practitioner, he has reached an Elo of 2563.
