GM Lajos Portisch
Lajos Portisch is a Hungarian Grandmaster whose masterful positional style earned him the nickname "the Hungarian Botvinnik." One of the world's elite players from the early 1960s through the late 1980s, he competed in twelve consecutive Interzonals and qualified for the World Championship Candidates cycle eight times. He won the Hungarian Championship eight times, set multiple all-time Chess Olympiad records, and received Hungary's highest national sports achievement award in 2004.
