Anatoly Karpov is a Russian Grandmaster and former World Chess Champion who held the title from 1975 to 1985. A master of positional strangulation who extracts wins from the smallest of advantages, he also claimed three FIDE World Championship titles, six Chess Olympiad golds with the USSR, and nine Chess Oscar awards. His expertise in the Catalan, Queen's Indian, and Nimzo-Indian openings remains legendary.
