GM Evgeny Sveshnikov
LatviaEvgeny Sveshnikov was a Russian Grandmaster and chess theorist whose name became permanently attached to the Sveshnikov Variation of the Sicilian Defence. Awarded the GM title in 1977, he revolutionized modern opening theory through his pioneering analysis. He was also an accomplished chess author and a practitioner of the Sicilian Alapin.
